Polymer production in Russia is showing steady growth. In August, production volume reached 945 thousand tons, which is 8.5% more than in July and 2.9% more than in August last year, according to Rosstat data provided by Interfax.
Results for eight months
In the first eight months of the year, polymer production increased by 0.6% compared to the same period in 2023. This indicates stable development of the industry and increased demand for polymer materials.
Polyethylene production
In August, polyethylene production amounted to 326 thousand tons, which is 6.9% higher than in July and 10.3% more than in August 2023. However, despite the positive dynamics in August, a decrease of 0.8% was observed from January to August.
Polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride
Polystyrene production in August increased to 51.5 thousand tons, which is 5.5% more than in July and 15.8% higher than in August last year. Over the eight months of this year, polystyrene production increased by 3.6%.
The production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in August increased by 7.2% compared to July, but there was a decrease of 1.2% compared to August 2023, amounting to 75.3 thousand tons. Over eight months, PVC production increased by 5.3%.
Synthetic rubbers
Synthetic rubber production in August amounted to 107 thousand tons, which is 1.8% less than in July, but 10.5% higher than in August last year. Over the period from January to August, synthetic rubber production increased by 3.3%.
Paints and varnishes
In August, 138 thousand tons of polymer-based paints and varnishes were produced, which is 12.7% less than in July and 10.2% lower than the level of August 2023. Over eight months, production decreased by 1.7%.
Tire production
The production of passenger car tires in August reached 2.9 million units, which is 27% more than in July and 10.6% higher than in August last year. Over eight months, the growth was 22.1% year-on-year.
The production of tires for buses, trolleybuses and trucks in August amounted to 515 thousand units, an increase of 25.5% compared to July, but a decrease of 13.7% compared to August 2023. Over eight months, this category has seen a decrease of 6.1%.
The production of tires and covers for agricultural machinery in August increased by 1.7 times compared to July, reaching 85 thousand units, but decreased by 9.1% compared to August last year. The overall decline over eight months was 6.9%. This growth in the production of polymers and related products indicates significant dynamics in the Russian polymer industry, which may be due to an increase in domestic and foreign demand for these materials.
