In our blog, we want to share the insights of Evgeniya Simakova, First Deputy General Director of LLC GSS Cosmetics, on the state of the Russian aerosol market and its challenges. The article by Simakova highlights numerous current issues and solutions the company has discovered on its path to success.
The Russian aerosol market is undergoing significant changes. While demand for products is steadily growing, companies face increasingly complex technical and regulatory requirements. In her interview, Evgeniya Simakova, First Deputy General Director of LLC GSS Cosmetics, shares her views on the opportunities and barriers facing the industry.
The expert asserts that the problems in the Russian aerosol industry lie in the insufficient flexibility and variety of products. Many enterprises focus on standard solutions, but GSS Cosmetics sees potential in niche products such as cosmetic sprays, dry shampoos, and shower foams. Launching such products requires not only investments but also a deep understanding of technical details.
At the recent China Beauty Expo, the GSS Cosmetics team discovered new compact aerosol packaging equipment, which opens up prospects for small-batch production. However, it turned out that issues like gas storage systems and the selection of appropriate formulations need to be addressed, requiring significant costs and effort.
As Simakova notes, contract manufacturing helps minimize risks and reach the market faster. Adapting experimental production for small volumes and exclusive series has expanded the product line without large investments in infrastructure.
Special attention is given to gas mixtures and packaging, where the proportions of propane and butane vary depending on the product. Supply issues with cans necessitate collaboration with partners offering minimum batches of 5,000 units, instead of the standard 30,000 in Russia. This has allowed the production of niche products aimed at limited series.
Product testing remains an essential stage. GSS Cosmetics has implemented a testing system to ensure the quality of aerosols under various operating conditions. This has helped avoid defects and reduce market adaptation time. However, developments in complex formulations are often hindered by limited specialist resources in Russia. To address this issue, the company sent its technologists abroad for training to implement modern methods and release new products like shaving foam and dry shampoo.
The company also faces challenges in storing and transporting alcohol-containing components. Licensing requirements and the need for specialized storage create additional challenges, but GSS Cosmetics has found solutions that comply with regulatory requirements while minimizing costs.
Evgeniya Simakova also emphasized the implementation of lean manufacturing principles and digitalization, which have reduced production costs. Applying for funding through the Industrial Development Fund not only allows for expanding the product line but also actively participating in the development of unique products that have not been previously manufactured in Russia.
In conclusion, Simakova is confident that flexibility and adaptability are key success factors in the modern aerosol market. Companies willing to invest in the development of technologies and solutions can open new niches and overcome existing barriers.
